Why use a massage table?

Various professionals use a massage table on a daily basis. It is the main equipment of home masseurs, physiotherapists and osteopaths, but also in various health and beauty institutes. For professionals who travel to clients' homes, a folding massage table is essential. For medical treatment, an electric massage table is usually used. A massage table is ideally equipped with a headrest. Otherwise, it is sometimes referred to as a massage bench.

The different professional massage tables

Several types can be distinguished.

The treatment table (beauty, relaxation...), a simple model that can be comfortable for professional massages if the height is adjustable and the cushion is thick enough (over 5 cm).

The lightweight folding massage table : made of aluminium for minimum weight. There are lightweight folding massage tables that weigh 8 kg or 9 kg, but most weigh around 10 kg.

The fixed massage table , which allows for more adjustment options and often a thicker, denser mattress. It is also possible to have a wooden massage table, although some wooden models are foldable.

The physiotherapy massage table : it is often an electric massage table, with at least 3 panels (head, back, legs).
A professional massage table can be suitable for different professions, but it is more specific to the health care field.

Choosing a folding massage table

A professional folding massage table should be light and easy to fold. Many transportable models can be folded into a carrying case. You don't necessarily need a cover, but a massage table trolley can be useful if you travel frequently. Foldable massage tables can be made of wood, a material that makes them more stable. Wood is not essential for all types of massage.

Dimensions of a massage table

A fixed massage table may offer adjustment options, including height adjustment. Many folding massage tables are also height adjustable. Frequently, the length of a massage table is at least 180 cm. The width varies more, depending on the make and model, but is around 70 cm. However, take into account the side armrests on some tables which allow for a more generous width.

Which home massage table to choose?

When choosing a fixed massage table for home use, the criteria are slightly different from professional tables.

• Weight: not important, if the table is not transportable.


• Static resistance (body weight at rest) and dynamic resistance (body weight
in motion): important criteria for all.

• The dimensions.


• Height adjustment, much sought after in a professional setting, but not necessarily for a private home.


• The possibility of adding side extensions.


• The thickness and density of the mattress.


• The presence of a headrest.


• The headrest or headrest with a hole for the face, useless for massages outside the medical field.

The price of a massage table

A cheap massage table costs more or less € 300. At this price, we offer comfortable models made of wood or aluminium. An inexpensive electric massage table costs around €1,500. Prices can go up to more than €4,000 for physiotherapy tables with 5 or 6 panels. When estimating your budget, don't forget the accessories, such as the fitted sheet or massage table sheet, cushions, blankets or heated mattresses.
